In the quiet countryside of Pukekawa, where life moves to the rhythm of the seasons and food still tells a story, The Smoke Shed was born.
For founders Jayde and Andrew Lane, barbecuing has always been more than just a way to cook—it’s been a way to connect. What started as backyard meals shared with family and friends, where laughter rose with the smoke and flavour was always king, soon grew into something more: a vision to bottle those moments and share them with others.
Family Roots
At the heart of The Smoke Shed is a sauce with a story: Bunney’s Worcester Sauce, a rich, complex recipe passed down from Jayde’s great-grandfather, Edwin Bunney, who immigrated from Pontypridd, Wales.
When Jayde’s Kiwi roots and Andrew’s South African braai know-how came together, something special ignited. Drawing on their rural, self-sufficient lifestyle, they built a collection of handcrafted barbecue sauces that reflect their love for cooking from scratch, preserving traditions, and celebrating flavour.
And so, The Smoke Shed was born—not just as a business, but as an invitation. An invitation to Ignite the Flavor and Savour the Moment. Crafted in small batches, inspired by rural life, and steeped in family heritage, this unique local product is making its mark in the food world having recently won three awards in the Outstanding Food Producer Awards 2025 categories.
