What's new or coming soon?
Waikato District Council has been actively working to remove barriers and streamline processes, making it easier for individuals and businesses to build or develop land.
District Plans are now online
You can now access District Plans, including previous District Plans, on Waikato District Council's online platform rather than having to look at separate website pages, or by having to open different PDF documents.
District Plan Property Enquiry - Finding maps, zones, and rules that relate to your property
You can find the maps, zoning details and District Plan rules that are specific to a property, using Waikato District Council's District Plan Property Enquiry tool. This search function will allow you to see all the information in relation to a property address, as well as the ability to access more detailed maps and rules.
Knowing what activity is allowed for your property
You can filter the District Plan Property Enquiry search by the type of activity for a specific property. This will help you understand what activity is permitted on your property. Waikato District Council has launched 10 activities so far with more becoming available during 2025. This will help save customers time when they are preparing a consent application.
New Development Contributions Estimator Tool
A new Development Contributions Estimator tool is coming soon.
This online tool, developed by Waikato District Council, will help customers to understand the potential cost of the development contributions associated with their proposal.
The estimator tool will allow customers to look at different variations to their development proposal to understand what the contributions for each option could look like. Keep an eye out for updates here.
Water Capacity Assessment Application
Is there sufficient water, wastewater and stormwater capacity to support your building or development plans/proposal?
Waikato District Council's three waters capacity assessment application allows you to understand early if there are any constraints within district water, stormwater, and wastewater networks before you invest time and money into an unfeasible development proposal. Find out more here.
Streamlining the application process for vehicle entranceways
If you’re adding or altering a vehicle entranceway for your property or development, you need to make a consent application first. Waikato District Council's new online application process makes it simpler to complete, submit and pay online for your vehicle entranceway application. Find out more here.
