Motorsport in the Waikato Gears Up

Hampton Downs and Next Gen Events Secure Regional Events Funding

Motorsport in the Waikato is celebrating a major win, with Hampton Downs Motorsport Park and event organisers Next Gen Events successfully receiving support from the Regional Events Promotion Fund, administered by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

The funding represents a significant vote of confidence in the region’s growing reputation as a premier destination for motorsport in Aotearoa. Hampton Downs, already a world-class facility nestled in the north Waikato, has played host to a number of iconic events that bring fans, competitors, and economic benefits to the area. With the backing of the Regional Events Promotion Fund, this momentum is set to accelerate even further.

Next Gen Events, known for delivering high-quality, crowd-pulling motorsport experiences, will use the funding to attract more visitors to the region and strengthen its calendar of national and international events. This includes bolstering marketing reach, improving fan engagement, and enhancing event infrastructure—ultimately ensuring an unforgettable experience for both spectators and participants.

The impact of this funding goes beyond the racetrack. Motorsport events bring a major boost to the local economy, benefiting accommodation providers, food and beverage businesses, tourism operators, and a wide range of suppliers. By supporting regional events like these, the MBIE fund is helping communities thrive and grow through sport and entertainment.

With Hampton Downs continuing to rev its engines and Next Gen Events at the helm, the future of motorsport in the Waikato looks bright. The region is ready to take pole position as a hub of high-octane excitement, innovation, and economic opportunity.
