Hynds was founded in 1973 by John and Léonie Hynds who started the early enterprise in the garage of their family home. Initially focused on manufacturing and constructing crib retaining walls, they quickly gained traction for their high-quality offerings, clever thinking and innovative designs. Over the coming years, Hynds evolved as the need for durable, reliable drainage solutions was recognised, particularly in the rapidly developing areas of Aotearoa.
As demand grew, so did their product range. They expanded beyond traditional concrete and drainage products to include a variety of solutions for water management, civil infrastructure, and environmental sustainability. This evolution not only met the needs of the market but also positioned them as a leader in innovative water and drainage solutions.

The following decades marked significant growth, as the company began to expand its operations and manufacturing capabilities throughout New Zealand.
The opening of the Pookeno site in 2018 was a pivotal moment, not only for the Hynds Group but for our Waikato district. This world-class facility, designed and built to incorporate the latest in sustainable design principles and technology, allowed for enhanced manufacturing capabilities and improved distribution networks, facilitating quicker service to customers. It also brought opportunities to the local workforce.
