Advance Notice – Parks and Open Spaces Contract Opportunity
Help shape the future of our parks, reserves, and community spaces

Waikato District Council’s Parks and Open Spaces Maintenance Contract is due to end in July 2026. Before we start formal procurement, we’re inviting suppliers to share ideas and help shape how these important services are delivered.

This is one of our largest contracts, covering parks, reserves, playgrounds, and shared spaces from Raglan to Tamahere, Ngaaruawaahia to Huntly, and Pookeno to Tuakau.

What’s in Scope?

  • Routine maintenance — mowing, gardening, playground checks, and more across parks, cemeteries, sportsgrounds, courts, and trails.
  • Scheduled maintenance and renewals — e.g. sports field marking, grave digging, surface renewals.
  • Provisional works — park furniture, structure repairs, sports renovations.
  • Specialist activities — boat ramps, beach grooming.
  • Some services (e.g. lighting, graffiti removal, hard surface maintenance) may be contracted separately.

We want suppliers who can:

  • Deliver safe, high-quality outcomes.
  • Improve community spaces through collaboration.
  • Integrate reporting and data with Council systems.
  • Build strong networks and effective working relationships.

Flexible Delivery Options - we’re open to:

  • Different contract structures — single large contract or regional packages.
  • Direct contracting for specialty services.
  • Supplier-driven solutions for better asset information.

Our Priorities:

  • Safety for all users.
  • Positive community experiences.
  • Value for money with sustainable outcomes.
  • Integrated systems for monitoring and data.
  • Prompt, flexible, accountable service.
  • Trust-based professional partnerships.

Procurement Objectives:

  • Attract cost-effective, innovative, collaborative proposals.
  • Choose delivery models that achieve the best results for the community.
  • Ensure suppliers can maintain service levels throughout the contract.
  • Use pricing/performance models that allow for growth without costly variations.
